K-12 Education Degree Programs

Master’s degree programs with a K-12 Education specialization typically are designed for licensed teachers and licensed principals/administrators. However, they are also sought by students wishing to become licensed teachers or licensed principals/administrators. Many schools offer both K-12 Education and K-12 Educational Administration Master’s degree programs.

The focus of such programs is to prepare educators or aspiring educators with the knowledge and skills needed to teach primary and secondary school children from kindergarten through 12th grade (thus the term, K-12).

These degree programs are often built around specific requirements for licensure as a K-12 teacher in the state where the college or university offering the program operates. However, all such programs have certain core requirements that are generally common across all states in the US.

Preparing primary and secondary school students to become young adults can be a very rewarding career choice. And as long as there are children, there will be a need for K-12 teachers, principals, and school administrators.
